A RESOURCE FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

ORTHOPEDIC CONDITIONS

OUR SERVICES CAN BENEFIT YOUR PATIENTS AS PART OF TREATMENT PLANNING

WHY CHOOSE US:

  • We offer a safe and therapeutic choice for those reluctant to move ahead with surgery, often resolving issues that will not heal with rest, pharmaceutical options or physical therapy (i.e. Grade 1 or 2 Rotator cuff tears, Plantar Fasciitis, Bell’s Palsy, Trigger finger, Carpal Tunnel).

  • We provide a gentle and systematic approach to non-surgical issues, many times resolving the injury, returning the patient to self-care, and improving overall function. This applies to patients of all ages, but especially for those where surgery is not the best option.

  • In study after study, Acupuncture has been proven to be the best option for low back pain, and equally efficacious for injuries throughout the body that have confounded traditional choices.

WHO WE TREAT:
  • Patients that may not require surgery due to either lack of urgency (i.e., pain scale is less than 5/10)

  • Patients that would like to try a pain-relief option that is non-pharmaceutical (i.e. patient that has tried steroids, NSAIDS or muscle relaxers without much relief).

  • Patient is reticent and expresses a fear of surgery.

  • Interest in trying other options/therapies that are less extreme, before moving ahead with surgery.

  • Severity of the injury does not establish need for surgery, (i.e. Grade 1 or 2 muscle or tendon tear.)

  • Patients in need of repair or balancing at joint or muscular junctions before Physical therapy is prescribed. (i.e. acute or chronic ankle or wrist sprain. Hamstring strain).

  • Frailty (i.e., elder, or deficient patients).

OUR PROCESS:

1. INTAKE

  • Prior to the patient’s first session in our clinic, we have patients complete an INTAKE Form.

  • We then discuss the details of the injury on the telephone or virtually in a 30-40 minute pre-treatment session, reviewing the patient’s entire HEALTH HISTORY to begin building a foundation for a treatment strategy.

2. PHYSICAL EXAM

  • When the patient arrives to our clinic, we physically examine the patient, checking ROM, joint and muscle function and areas of compression/rotation of the spine. We then proceed with treatment.

3. TREATMENT TOOLS

  • We utilize Acupuncture (including Trigger point and Motor Point therapies), Electrostimulation, Far-Infrared lamp therapy and Tui Na (Chinese medical massage), along with Gua Sha, Cupping and other Traditional Chinese Medicine manual therapies.

4. TREATMENT GOALS

  • Our goal with treatment is to reduce tension locally at the injury site, then manipulate and smooth the tissue with massage, to promote healing.

  • Most times, we also rebalance adjacent joints and muscles, both above and below the injury (i.e., a knee injury will likely have hip or ankle implications).

  • Finally, we also treat the paraspinal muscles to help improve the function of the nervous system.

COMMON INJURIES WE TREAT
  • Bulging Disk
  • Spinal Compression or Rotation
  • Piriformis Syndrome
  • Osteopenia, Osteoporosis
  • Twisted Joints (wrists, fingers, ankles, feet, toes, knees)
  • Cruciate Ligaments
  • Meniscus Tears
  • Tennis / Golf Elbow
  • Arthritis, Bursitis
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
RESULTS WE EXPECT:

  • When we attempt to repair a strained or torn muscle or hamstring, depending on the severity of the injury (grade 1 or 2), we expect the patient to be functional within 1-3 sessions. We then work to help the patient maintain and not reinjure the muscle or tendon by recommending corrective exercises to support what we’ve treated and lifestyle changes that help avoid recurrence.

  • With cartilage injuries like meniscus strains or tears, we must repair the joint imbalance while also rebalancing the patient’s gait. We release Adductor/Abductor and Gastrocnemius tension, and sometimes TFL and Gluteus muscles with Motor Point therapy, then add TENS machine electrostimulation at low frequency. Depending on the health of the patient, this can take 5-8 sessions or slightly longer.

  • We use Acupuncture, Tui Na and Electrostimulation to treat any inflammatory-created condition - i.e., Lateral Epicondylitis, DeQuervain’s stenosing tenosynovitis, Carpal Tunnel or “Trigger” finger. These conditions can typically be resolved within 4-5 sessions.

  • Osteopenia, Osteoporosis – We can help improve bone density and reduce bone pain, with high frequency Electrostimulation attached to acupuncture needles to help regenerate or at least stop the degradation of the bone. We also use periosteal pecking to stimulate bone growth. Finally, we discuss lifestyle and dietary contributions to help with internal issues that may be contributing to the condition.

  • With Spinal Stenosis, Spondylolisthesis or other disc compression related injuries that may lead to displaced vertebra, and/or bulging or herniated discs, we release the paraspinal muscles, balance the pelvis, then decompress the paraspinal muscles with Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage). This should bring results in 1-2 sessions, assuming patient compliance regarding corrective exercises and lifestyle changes.

  • With Spasmodic Torticollis or other contractile, restrictive muscular injuries, we use Acupuncture, Far-Infrared heat therapy with external warming herbs, and low-frequency Electrostimulation, along with a review of sleep and desk position options.
